Our Programs

In partnership with the International Research Exchanges Board (IREX), we piloted the Digital-ESE workshop in Nairobi, bringing together 14 women aged 18–35 from diverse backgrounds including lawyers, entrepreneurs, managers, biologists, and teachers, to learn practical skills for navigating the digital world safely. Through hands-on activities, lively discussions, and locally relevant content, participants explored how to critically evaluate online information, protect their digital footprint, and respond to cyber risks like bullying, scams, and data tracking. Many described the workshop as truly eye-opening, leaving with greater confidence, digital literacy, and a clear understanding of online safety tools and reporting mechanisms. This pilot showed how targeted digital upskilling can not only empower women to confidently engage online but also strengthen resilience, foster supportive networks, and advance gender equality and digital inclusion across Kenya.

In partnership with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, TechSecure Women empowered 15 young women aged 18–35 in Nairobi County to take charge of their digital lives. Through hands-on workshops, mentorship, and community outreach, participants learned not just to navigate online spaces safely, but to critically evaluate information, protect their digital identities, and respond to cyber risks. The program created a supportive community, where women shared experiences, encouraged one another, and built lasting connections. Participants left the workshops feeling more confident, capable, and connected, ready to engage safely and responsibly online. By fostering both digital skills and peer networks, TechSecure Women advanced multiple Sustainable Development Goals, including quality education, gender equality, innovation, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for change. This pilot shows how targeted digital upskilling can transform lives, empower women, and strengthen inclusive, digitally safe communities in Nairobi.

We brought together more than 200 legal professionals, law enforcement officers, and policymakers to address the growing challenge of Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence in Kenya. The discussions highlighted significant gaps in the current legal framework, including the limited recognition and prosecution of cyberstalking, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, online harassment, and other forms of digital abuse. Many existing laws were designed for physical acts of violence and do not fully capture the ways technology can be used to intimidate, exploit, or harm women and girls. Through interactive sessions, participants explored how the law can evolve to explicitly criminalize these online abuses and how enforcement mechanisms can be strengthened. The initiative empowered participants to develop actionable strategies for updating legislation, improving investigation and prosecution procedures, and ensuring that digital spaces are treated with the same seriousness as physical environments. By addressing these gaps, the program is helping to create a safer, more accountable, and gender equitable digital environment where women and girls can participate confidently online.

Through SafeHer community awareness sessions, SafeOnline Women Kenya (SOW-Kenya) has reached over 20 communities across Kenya, engaging more than 500 women and girls in interactive training on digital safety. These sessions create safe spaces for open conversation, where participants share experiences of online harassment, ask questions, and learn practical strategies to protect themselves online. Attendees gain hands-on experience using SafeHer’s anonymous reporting, AI-assisted incident monitoring, social media integration, and volunteer Guardian support, empowering them to respond effectively to cyber threats. By combining training, mentorship, and peer-to-peer support, these sessions build confidence, digital literacy, resilience, and stronger, safer online communities throughout Kenya.
